A List of 13 Firsts and Lasts

Hey Hey and H A P P Y F R I Y A Y!  And this is no regular Friday you guys – it’s Friday the 13th which is always fun. 😉 We thought we’d do a little play on this fun holiday and keep it nice and light around here by giving you a list of 13 Firsts and Lasts to entertain you.

We’ve got a list of 13 things – and we’re going to spill the beans on when the first time we experienced or did them was followed by the last time we did or experienced that thing.

This should be fun, and feel free to play along in the comments!

    1. When was your first/last kiss?
Ashley – I’m thinking like a kiss kiss..like a makeout kiss… Sooo my First was sometime in the spring of 2003  when I was 17 or 18 and my  Last wassss like three weeks ago. Lol
Rhonda – First kiss was 6th grade and last kiss was last night.
  1. What was your first/last job?

Ashley – my first was Mcdonald’s and my last is my current job at a moving company.
Rhonda – Day Care teacher was first and currently a boutique owner.
  2. First/Last car accident?

Ashley – my first was on the way back to college during my freshman year. I merged and my blind spot wasn’t clear so I clipped a lady next to me. My last was sometime last year in the Starbucks parking lot. As I was backing out of my parking space so was the car directly behind me and we collided.
Rhonda – In the 11th grade, I ran my car off a dark back road and walked away lucky as fuck. My last car accident was when a young girl side swiped me at the gas station in 2012.
  1. What’s the FIRST thing you do in the morning and the LAST thing you do at night? Ashley – the first thing I do is get up and go grab a wash cloth to go clean my face. The last thing I do is check my phone and set it down.
Rhonda – First thing in the morning I pee, last thing at night I check my phone – repeatedly.
  2. What was the first/last traffic violation you received? Ashley – A speeding ticket was my first and the last was I think when I got a ticket YEARS ago on the way home from Hattiesburg for an expired inspection sticker.
Rhonda – The first time I was stopped, I was in high school and was pulled over for a rolling stop – and my dad passed by and laughed at me.  The first time I actually got a ticket though was for speeding in college.  I honestly don’t remember the last time I had a traffic violation.
  3. From where did you get your first and last paycheck?

Ashley – I guess this is kind of redundant…but my first was from Mcdonald’s and my last from my current job.
Rhonda – My first paycheck was from the day care I worked at in high school.  My last one was from KEEP collective, where I sell jewelry.
  4. What was your first/last pet?

Ashley – my first pet was a little black dog that I can’t even remember the name of which is horrible! And my last was the dog that my parents have. She was supposed to be Mine…but then I realized for sure I’m not an animal person and I went away to college so now she’s basically like my other sister
since my parents claimed her. LOL——————————-
Rhonda – My first and last pets were both dogs.
  5. When was the first/last time you got engaged? (this is funny because we’ve both been engaged multiple times – one of us more than the other. 😉 )
Ashley -the first time was in 2007 to my then boyfriend…the last time was 2008 (I think) to a different boyfriend. Obviously neither of those panned out cause I’m still not married.
Rhonda – The first time I was engaged, I was in 1999.  The last time was in December 2016.
  6. When and where was the first/last time you gave birth?

Ashley – First time was in 2013 at Ocean Springs Hospital…and second was in 2015 same place.
Rhonda  – The first time I gave birth was in 2006, in Hattiesburg, MS.  The last time was in 2014, in Gulfport, MS.
  7. Who was/is your first and last best friend?

Ashley – my very first best friend was a girl I went to elementary school with whose name was Ashleigh. And my last is a tie between Rhonda and my Sister.—————————–
    Rhonda –
My first best friend was Peaches and my last and current best friends are Ashley and Nicole.
  8. First CD you bought and last song/album you purchased? (cause know ain’t nobody buying CDs on the regular anymore ) Ashley – the first CD I bought was Savage Garden in like 1997. The last song/album I purchased was a Light Up the Moon album. I also pay for Amazon music unlimited monthly  so I don’t have to buy most individual songs or albums.
Rhonda –  The first time I received music was actually a CASSETTE of the Beastie Boys.  First CD I bought myself was Green Day Dookie.  The last song I purchased was Dan + Shay f/ Kelly Clarkson, Keeping Score.
  9. What was your first/last cellphone?

Ashley – Goshhh my first was this little blue Nokia back when I was 16…so in 2001 (ish). And my last is an IPhone X.
Rhonda – My first cellphone was a bulletproof Nokia when I went to college.  It was for emergencies only but was free to talk after 9 pm! My last phone is  an Iphone 7s.
  10. When was the first/last time you got on a plane?

Ashley – my first was when I was like 9 or 10? I’d have to ask my mom. We flew to PA  to visit my aunt. And the last time  was flying home from the –DFW.
Rhonda – The first time I got on a plane was when I was pregnant in 2005. The last time was in 2017 for a trip to Orange Beach.

Anddd there you go guys  – now you know just a little more than you probably wanted to about us. 😉 Hehe We want to know more about YOU though. Please, share some of your first and lasts with us!

I don’t know about you guys, but I am always always chasing volume when it comes to styling my hair. I’ve got super thin and fine hair that kind of just hangs there limply unless I do something to it.

My favorite thing to do to really pump some volume into my lifeless hair? Man. I love a good blowout. I give myself one after every time that I wash my hair. And let me just say, that after years of practice – I’ve gotten pretty good at it.

The thing is. I don’t wash my hair everyday. I typically wash my hair every 3-4 days. So. What do I do about getting some volume in my hair on those no wash days? Well. I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve, and I thought maybe you guys would be interested in hearing how to achieve that blow out look without the use of a blow dryer!

First things first? The hair that I’m talking about working on is day 2 or 3 after you’ve washed and blow dried your hair. I always use a heat protectant and some volumizing mousse when I am going from wet hair to blown out and dried hair. So just keep in mind that the look I achieve is with those products already in my hair.

Alright, so it’s day 2 or 3 after your wash and you need to kick up those roots and give your hair some oomph! Here’s the things you need:

Large Velcro Curlers

Hair Brush

Flat Iron

Volumizing Dry Shampoo

Volumizing Spray

Flexible Hold Volumizing Hairspray

  1. Brush all the tangles from your hair.
  2. Use your flat iron to smooth down your hair, curl under the ends, and remove any kinks left in your hair from a ponytail holder, headband, or just plain ole sleeping gymnastics.
  3. Lift and spray the roots of your hair with the dry shampoo. Allow the dry shampoo to set then flip your head over and use our fingertips to rub in/distribute the dry shampoo.
  4. Begin by grabbing a 1-2 inch section of hair. Brush the section then spray the section with the volumizing spray from root to tip (spraying along the underside of your hair section). Wrap the section of hair around a velcro curler. Repeat this step until the top two third sections of your hair are in curlers.
  5. Lightly spray over all your curlers with the hairspray.
  6. Continue on with your morning. Put your makeup on. Make and drink your coffee. Search for ten minutes before you find a matching pair of socks for your toddler’s outfit. Or just browse social media on your phone. Whatever you do – I’d let the curlers rest for at least 20-30 minutes.
  7. Remove the curlers. Use your fingertips to rub and shake up your roots to pump your hair up even more. Like sky high. Because inevitably your hair will fall a little bit. Give your whole head a nice generous spray of the hairspray.
  8. Look in the mirror and be amazed at that fresh blow out look that you achieved without a blow dryer!

See the difference?? Obviously, I’d also done a full face of makeup between the before and after. That makes a huge difference too. 😉 LOL But seriously this method just really wakes up and gives some oomph to my flat bed head that I wake up with! 🙂

Also, I am on the hunt for some scentless volumizing spray and setting spray – do you guys have any suggestions? If so, please leave me a comment and I’ll for sure try them!

Eat Happy: Asian Marinated Shrimp Skewers

Hi there.  Welcome back! We’re doing a weekly series that publishes every Thursday wherein we are cooking through one of our FAVE cookbooks : Eat Happy! If you missed the intro post you can click on over here to read that.

We are starting with the very first recipe and working our way all the way through to the end. We will not be sharing with you the actual recipes that we cook. We WILL be sharing our experience during the whole process and our opinion of the outcome. So thanks for stopping by…and let’s dive in to this week’s recipe shall we?

So, I really love shrimp. Eating shrimp. If you asked me what my favorite meal is I’d probably first reply by saying I’ll eat anything mexican and anything with shrimp.

The thing is- peeling said shrimp really freaking sucks. I can’t tell you how many times during the process of peeling these shrimp that I considered giving up. Pinching their heads off and seeing all the things that secreted during the pinching…. I just can’t imagine willing doing that again for a while.

I mean. Was it worth it? Well yeah. We’re doing this whole thing to get out of our comfort zones when it comes to making NSNG foods. Well, when it comes to making food in general! And also, this was super delicious.

Anna has yet to let us down. 🙂

Also, considering I prepped and cooked this dish while I was also making Quesadilla Casserole and baking/shredding some chicken for another recipe later this week – I can safely say that this shrimp recipe is easy peasy to whip up.

The hardest part is the shrimp peeling. I feel like that could be a form of torture. Cheat on your math test? Here, now you must peel 3 pounds of shrimp.

Sophie, my two year old, wasn’t helping matters when she repeatedly would come check on me and go, “oooh mommy what you doin’? That yucky!” LOL

I didn’t cook my shrimp on skewers. Why? Cause I failed at remembering to buy some. I feel like they probably tasted the same. 😉

But yes, this was super yummy and as always extremely good for my body because there were no sugars or grains!

Well hello hello! Welcome back to the blog… today I wanted to share with you my recipe for a solution that I use to clean my makeup brushes.

Obviously, you can go to most beauty stores or even Walmart to buy makeup brush cleaning solutions. I’ve done just that many times. However, I have a ton of brushes, and I usually neglect to clean them until the whole gigantic lot needs to be scrubbed down. This procrastination means that when I do clean my brushes – I use a TON of cleaner during the process. A good makeup brush cleaning solution is not typically cheap. And I’m cheap. And then also there have been times where I didn’t have a backup on hand when I ran out of cleaning solution midway through a  brush cleaning session. I improvised a lot and made my own cleaning solution to finish up getting all those brushes clean.

This homemade makeup brush cleaner was really just my backup for an emergency situation when I ran out of store bought cleaning solution until I realized that this homemade solution was cheaper and really performed just as well if not better than the expensive brush cleaning solutions I was buying from Ulta.

It was a light bulb moment that I haven’t turned back from! And so, without further adieu … I give you my go to homemade makeup brush cleaning solution:

To be honest – I never measure when I’m putting this concoction together. I just eyeball it, but I know that if it were me reading this blog post – I’d want some concrete measurements to start out with.

Cleaning Your Brushes:

  1. Wet the bristles underneath warm water running from the faucet.
  2. Dip the wet bristles inside your makeup brush cleaning solution
  3. Swirl the soaked brush around on the surface of a rubber makeup brush cleaning pad. (I use this one)
  4. Once you see the makeup residue being dislodged from the brush onto the rubber pad, place the brush/rubber pad setup underneath the running water and swirl the brush around until all the makeup residue is washed away and all of the cleaning solution is rinsed from your brush.
  5. Run your pointer and thumb finger over the brush bristles so that they are laying flat in their intended state. Place the brush on a towel to dry.

Cleaning Your Makeup Sponge:

  1. After you’ve cleaned all the brushes that you need to, dilute the remaining cleansing solution with water. It’s important that the solution not be thick when you dunk your sponge in it. Why? Well. You’ll be there for ten million years trying to squeeze out all that soap. Trust me.
  2. So, dip your sponge in the diluted cleaning solution and squeeze and release it several times while it is submerged.
  3. Take the sponge out of the cleaning solution and hold it under running water while you perform the same squeeze and release motions until the water runs clear of bubbles and soap residue.

There you have it! A makeup brush cleaning solution that I’m sure most of you could whip up without having to leave your home to search for the ingredients! Let me know if you try it!

Life Lately

Hey hey! It’s Monday and time for another installment in our Life Lately series. We’re here today to fill you guys in on some of the details from our lives over the past couple of weeks. 🙂

Rhonda and I had a big week/weekend following our last Life Lately Update. I already wrote a post here detailing all the fun things she and I got to do. 🙂

Ashley –

Wellll it’s July. We’re halfway through summer break, and I’m not quite sure how that happened so quickly! The other day Shaun asked Coop if he was ready to go back to school and Cooper replied with a very quick and firm, “NO”, which cracked us up. LOL

Besides my much needed girl time with Rhonda – the kids and I have been keeping it pretty low key. It’s been a goal of mine to try and live local this summer – and soak up as much sunshine and beach time as possible.

We’ve for sure been taking advantage of all the splash pads around our hood. A splash pad is probably my favorite water activity because it really allows me to relax. I don’t have to worry about the kids drowning (ok so not as much as I’d worry at the beach or a pool) and they are the ones running around back and forth so I don’t have to repeatedly get up and down to assist them in some way or another.

We do have some fun big news: we are in the process of buying a house! It’s pretty dang exciting and a much needed thing in our life. I don’t want to spill too many details about it…just because we are still in the beginning stages and these things are never final until they’re final – but so far things have been moving along smoothly! I’ m just mainly excited to be closer to downtown Ocean Springs, and for the major increase in space. We will be going from a 1 bath two bedroom house that is just under 1000 sq ft to a 4 bedroom house at around 2200 sq ft. I. Can’t. Wait. Can we  get three cheers for  big closets and multiple bathrooms? Praise the lort.

So yeah. That’s what’s going on over here in Mississippi. What about you Rhonda?

Rhonda –

Since we homeschool and took a ton of time off in spring, we have been schooling through the summer.  Because of the way we do things (and the fact that it is hot and sunny through October), we don’t really have a concept of having a summer break.  We have been living our lives business as usual, but with lots of pool time.

As mentioned before, I went to Mississippi recently.  On the way to the coast, I stopped to see my nephew, who is seriously the cutest baby boy I’ve ever seen (and I had 3!).  As soon as I got to the coast, I had lunch with my eldest “son” Jonathan.  I used to be his manager and we developed a familial relationship that can’t be described.  Don’t we seriously look related though?!

You’ve read about our weekend here, but I didn’t want you to miss out on this important detail – I drank all the things.

Back at home, it was business as usual – work, work, work and school, school, school.  The glamorous life of a business-owning and homeschooling mom and all.

Speaking of glamour, our air went out this past week.  You know, on a triple digit Texas day.  While we waited for repairs, we borrowed a couple window units for sleeping and survived on cocktails, living in underwear, and time in the pool.  Even after our air was fixed , we continued to round out the weekend with more time in the pool. It’s such a great way to slow down and have time together as a family.

What have you guys been up to?  Anything exciting or blissfully routine?

Friday Five: Links I’m Loving

You guys. It’s finally Friday. I say finally, but truthfully this week has flown by. However, no matter how fast a week seems to glide on by, I’m still crazy excited for a Friday and the upcoming weekend. 🙂 Always dreaming of and loving the idea of spending some time on the sand close to the water.

The beach is always always something I’m loving. However I also  spend lots of time perusing the internet and coming across things that I fall in love with in the virtual world.  And so, I thought I’d spend some time today sharing with you guys some of my current link crushes from different corners of the internet. 😉

Let’s get to it shall we?

The Ultimate Summer Reading List for 3-5 Year Olds – Summer 2018  by Read Brightly

You guys know that I think reading is super important, and I just loaded up on some new books for our reading at home. However, I never miss a chance to to investigate and discover new books for my kiddos to experience!

Kids Closet Makeover by Making Home Base

One of my most favorite searches to perform on Pinterest is to look for closet organization/makeovers. I’m currently obsessed with this one by MHB. It’s even got an Ikea closet organizer! Who doesn’t love Ikea? Anyway. Click over to see all that beautiful organization.

This Book Wall featured on Project Nursery

I mean, a traditional book shelf is always nice and super functional BUT this book wall is beautiful. PLUS with little kids it’s nice that they can see the front of the books and know what they are pulling down instead of just pulling and consequently throwing random books to the floor.

These Unicorn Party Dresses from Abby Apples

Like. So cute. And that is all I have to say about them.

These Nickel and Suede Earrings, Orchid Cord, from their Summer Collection

I mean. All the heart eye emojis. And all the I gotta have them ASAP feelsss.

I hope you enjoyed my random assortment of linky love. What about y’all? What are some things you’ve been crushing on lately? Let me know in the comments!

A Rage Against The MOMachine MS Coast Weekend

Hello hello there! It’s Wednesday, but to be honest we didn’t have anything worthy of showing you guys in our typical What We Wore Wednesday post. I mean. We both totally got dressed and got dressed UP cause Rhonda was in town this weekend! Yet, we both failed at photographing all those fly outfits. I guess we were just living in the moment and enjoying each other which is way more important than remembering to capture outfit pictures!

SO, in light of all that … we thought we’d give you a little glimpse into our weekend together! 🙂

Rhonda drove down from Texas on Wednesday morning. She spent that afternoon and evening at her brother and sister in law’s house so that she could love up on her new little nephew, Nolan. I mean. What a stinking cutie!

On Thursday she made the trek down the the coast to do some shopping and spend that evening at my house! My kids were crazy excited to see her. As was I. 😉 We hung out at home while she played offense as my kids tried to consume her every moment. I think it’s pretty dang cute and sweet how she’s a part of our lives even though she doesn’t get to be here on the daily.

After the kids went to bed, we had some classic girl time filled with a couple of cocktails, doing our nails, catching up on gossip, and then falling asleep next to each other while we talked way to long into the night. It definitely took me back to high school sleep overs with my best friend.

Friday, I had to work but Rhonda shopped some more and got her hair touched up. As soon as Five hit I was out the door and we were ready to begin our favorite time of getting ready together while listening to music and chit chatting.

We hit up the Chill Bar and Lounge (our fave spot) at the IP Casino to see our friends, Dumm – play. It was really a blast. I wrote here about how much we enjoy doing this together.

Despite rolling in super late, we managed to wake up early (ish) Saturday morning and make our way to grab some day passes and enjoy time by the pool at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. It was really nice, despite some not so stellar food and beverage service. Even though we got there around 10:40 am there were NO lounge chairs left vacant! We made the best of it and lounged in the shallow end of the pool until a couple became available.

After a long morning/afternoon at the pool indulging in some yummy tacos and margaritas, we packed up and ran by Target – cause duh – for some things we both needed before we started to get ready for another night at the Chill.

It was really a great weekend filled with so much quality time together – and we got to hang out with some of our friends that we don’t see too often. We even got to meet a new friend we made through our Wine Wednesday Facebook Live Broadcasts {{shout out JVW!}} which was really nice.

Long distance friendships are hard, but we try to make the best of it by getting together whenever possible – and living it up while we ARE together. 🙂

Also, don’t forget we are doing Wine Wednesday Live over on the Facebook Page so make sure you click over and like and turn on notifications so you don’t miss us at 9pm tonight!

Ashley’s Top 3 Mascara Picks

Hey y’all! I don’t know about you guys, but I love hearing what other people view as their ‘go to’ beauty products. Around here, we are beauty product junkies, and while we are both almost exclusively all up in Senegence Products when it comes to our beauty routines – I like to switch it up every now and then and branch out. This is especially true when it comes to my choice in mascara.

It’s really rare for me to have just one type of mascara sitting in my makeup stash. I like to have a couple different tubes around to suit what kind of mood I am in each day. I’ve tried alllll kinds of mascaras from drugstore brands to high end brands, but there are a few particular ones that I go back to time and time again.

For me, a mascara that gives me thickness and volume is super important. Just like all the other hair on my body, my eye lashes are thin and fine which means that I need a mascara that will pump them up and make them so that they are actually visible when you look at my face. 😉 We’ve all got different types of lashes – so our criteria are bound to be different when it comes to what makes a mascara ‘good’, but these three have proven themselves to be just what I need in a mascara.

Better Than Sex Mascara by Too Faced – $23.00
Obviously I love this mascara because of the volume it provides my lashes. I really like the thick wand as well. The design of the wand is also important to the way it distributes the product on my lashes. It doesn’t flake throughout the day and will easily last me an entire 8-9 hour day of wearing my makeup. This mascara is also super easy to remove at the end of the night since it isn’t waterproof.

Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara by L’Oreal – $7.99
This is one of the only drugstore mascaras that I go back to over and over again. It is a great true black color that really makes my lashes stand out. And again, it gives me substantial volume and thickness to my thin little lashes. I also buy the non waterproof version of this mascara so that I don’t have to beat up my eyes while trying to remove it at the end of the night. 😉

Benefit BADgal BANG Mascara by Benefit Cosmetics – $24.00
Now, this is the only waterproof mascara that I would intentionally buy. Why? Well my friends, this mascara is AMAZING. If you have not tried it, you are missing out. Like I said I love a mascara that gives me volume and thickness which this one does BUT it also lengthens my lashes! I mean. It does all the things. The ONLY reason this beauty isn’t my holy grail mascara is because it’s waterproof. It’s a real pain to take off at the end of the night – so I typically reserve use of this one for special occasions. It’s labeled as ‘water resistant’ – but let me tell you , it’s full on waterproof…makeup remover proof too. LOL But totally worth that hassle for the way it makes my lashes look.

Another quality that is important to me when I’m choosing my favorite mascara is that it lean more towards a wet formula. I hate a dry mascara. All three of these have that in common – they are a wet formula. I just like the way a wetter formula applies and I feel like it holds the consistency of performance better because it takes longer to dry out. If you start with a dry formula, after a couple weeks of pulling that wand in and out each day –  you’re mascara is going to even more dry and just not perform very well anymore. Who wants that kind of mascara tragedy in their life? Especially if you’ve just spent almost $30 for it!

Tell me, what are YOUR go to mascaras? I’m always game for trying a new one!
