Week in Review: Rhonda

What a week!  I actually switched stuff up a little, which was nice.  I am a lover of routine, but it’s nice to have change sometimes too.

Unfortunately, I woke up Monday with an ear infection.  Claudia helped me ship some orders at the post office and I went on a laundry adventure in which I washed a Queen comforter in a tiny washer.  Other than that, all I did was some makeup stuff.  And of course, we sat on the patio to watch Stuart arrive to great fanfare.

I woke up on Tuesday still sick and Claudia passed out in my bed while I was still having coffee.  She woke up wanting me to put numerous ponytails in her hair.  I wanted to spend the day in bed, but needed to do some meal prep and film a makeup review.  When the kids laid down for their afternoon quiet time, I had a beer and filmed the review.

At 2:30 am Wednesday morning, I heard Claudia crying hysterically and went to see what the problem was.  The party chick was frantically trying to hold up a painting as tall as she is, because she was playing all over the living room and knocked it over.  I had a hard time sleeping after that, which was unfortunately since I had to get up and out the door early Wednesday so I could get some stuff done with the kids before their weekend trip to their dad’s house.  I ran errands and helped the kids make their Valentine bags for our homeschool party.  The boys enjoyed the announcement I made that we were taking the entire week off school and that the next week would only be Wednesday and Thursday.  They celebrated with XBox.

Thursday, we got up to head down to meet the kids’ dad.  It was an uneventful drive down and I was super excited to jam in the car solo on the way back.  I then took the coveted-by-all-moms solo Target trip.  I wandered down every aisle before going home to get ready for date night with my guy.  We finally cashed in the gift card we got for Christmas and had a lovely seafood dinner.

Stuart surprised me Friday morning by taking the day off work so we could spend more time together and so that he could go with me to get my license.  I’m so glad he did, because I ended up being there for several hours.  After some wine shopping, we came home to binge watch Sense8.  What a mind fuck that show is!

Childfree weekend continued Saturday morning with our usual breakfast and mimosa routine.  It was a lovely day out, so we decided to go for a bike ride.  After a ride through small-town Texas, we were starving and thought another dinner out would be a lovely idea.

Sunday morning, Stuart woke me all the way up by asking the ridiculous question, “Do you want to go to Bolsa?”  You’ll soon find out, dear readers, that Bolsa is our slice of heaven.  It’s OUR brunch place, where we fell in love, and where the staff became our family.  I ALWAYS want to go to Bolsa.  After a leisurely brunch, we came home and rearranged our bedroom and I love it so much now!

It was truly such a lovely weekend.  As much as I love my kids, I cherish the time I get to focus on my relationship and get things done without literally tripping over my little shadow.

I hope you also take time for yourself and your relationship if you’re in one.  It’s so important!

Review: Maëlle Beauty

Last summer, I signed on for an amazing opportunity, to be one of the founding mentors of a brand-new beauty brand, Maëlle.  I was super excited, but then my life took a bunch of dramatic turns and I pulled out before launch and decided I would just be a customer.  The sponsor I had, Brittaney, is an amazing makeup artist and such a sweet soul.  When she approached me to review some products, I jumped at the opportunity to try them for myself.

When I do reviews, you can be sure of this – I will always be 100% honest.  In a past blog, I did a couple of negative reviews.  It sucks to do that, but fortunately for both of us, I loved the products!

I was sent three products and they were all so good.  Briefly, the lowdown…

  1. Above and Beyond Mascara – I was prepared to think, “yeah, it’s good,” but not be excited about the product.  After all, there are a lot of good mascaras.  This one is amazing though.  It does EVERYTHING you want – curls, lengthens, separates, and coats every lash.  Best of all, no smudging and flaking throughout the day.
  2. Secret Illuminator – This is used alone, under makeup, or over makeup to brighten the eye area.  I tried it with no makeup and it helped brighten my eyes.  Then I tried it under concealer and it helped.  When I then patted it on OVER my concealer, my eyes really brightened.
  3. Angled Brush – This brush is the perfect density and size for blending eyebrows and lining the eyes! I love it for brushing a shimmery gold shadow along my lower lash line.

You can find all of these products by shopping with Brittaney.

Check out my YouTube video for full review.

What We Wore

Hey Guys! So Wednesdays around here will be known as ‘What We Wore Wednesdays’ …. and Winesday, obviously. Haha BUT what we are going to share here on the blog every week are the outfits that we put together. Why? To hold ourselves accountable to make the most use out of our wardrobe. To maybe inspire someone else to try a combination or style they may have not thought of. And mainly, well we love clothes. Talking about clothes. Looking at clothes. Shopping for clothes. Taking selfies of ourselves in clothes. 🙂 Sooo anyway, enough with the chit chat! Please, scroll on down and take a look at what each of us wore this past week:

I Heart Tarte

It is no secret that I am absolutely obsessed with makeup.  Over the last few years, I moved from all drugstore makeup to mostly prestige products.  I still have a few favorite drugstore standouts and use them when I can, to lessen the impact of my beauty habit on my wallet.

There is one brand that never lets me down.  That would be Tarte.  Some brands really have a lot of misses sprinkled in with the hits.  Tarte seriously never fails me.  I have never purchased anything from them that I didn’t absolutely love.  Let me just rattle off some reasons I love Tarte.

  1. They are cruelty-free.  For a brief period, I tried to go 100% cruelty-free, then I found that there was so much grey area.  Then I worked for a beauty brand that is not cruelty-free and half my arsenal suddenly wasn’t.  I still try to buy cruelty-free when the product is just as good as similar items being offered.
  2. The smell.  The intoxicating, lightly sweet fragrance of the tarte palettes and lip products draws me in.  I love the luxurious feeling of opening a palette and smelling what I can only describe as pure love.
  3. The wearability.  I love an edgy, funky, colorful, or all-out sparkly look at times, but the majority of the products can be worn to a conservative office or at home with the kids.  That isn’t to say I don’t get funky at home sometimes, but you get the idea.  You can also build up a day look to a night look using the same products.
  4. The people behind the brand.  I follow Tarte on snapchat and IG and they are totally relatable people who really just want to help you!  They aren’t afraid to go on camera without makeup either.
  5. The packaging.  The products are just beautiful and so well-made.  The palettes always have pretty prints and nice little phrases like “throw kindness around like confetti.”
  6. The quality of the product.  Everything they make does what it promises.  Because of this, I always have complete confidence in placing an order on a product I haven’t even swatched in the store.  For the price, you really get a great value.  The shadows and cheek colors are totally blendable and buildable.

Today, I decided to do a 100% Tarte look.  When I got started though, I realized that there were a few items I don’t have from Tarte.  So, I pulled out a few “supporting cast.”  Guess I know what’s next on my Tarte wish list!

The stars of the show: limited edition tarteist Live.Laugh.Love.Dream. blush palette (no longer available), limited edition maneater palette, rainforest of the sea foundation, shape tape concealer, smolderEYES amazonian clay waterproof eyeliner, tarteist lash paint mascara, lights camera splashes waterproof mascara, park avenue princess bronzer, creamy matte lip paint in FOMO

The supporting cast: bellapierre banana setting powder, Benefit Ka-Brow, Benefit porefessional primer

Do you use any of these products?  What’s your never-fail makeup brand?

*I am in no way sponsored by Tarte (but better believe I would accept such an offer).  They have no idea who I am.  I received no compensation for this post and bought everything with mine or my fiance’s hard-earned money.*

Week in Review: Rhonda

Welcome to my first Week in Review!  We are excited to share the highlights (and let’s be honest, lows) of our week with you.  This first recap of mine will likely be longer than most, so that you can get a feel for how our days play out.

My week varies depending on the weather mostly.  We try to go to the playground when it’s good weather.  We will sometimes skip school if we have a lot of errands, or just want to get outside.

Monday was lovely weather, so I did some printing and planning while Claudia took an early morning nap.  Then we went to the playground briefly.  The visit was cut short when I decided to show Quentin my “trick.”  I jumped out of the swing from an impressive height and made a not-so-impressive crash landing.  After lunch, I ran some errands and stopped by Harbor Freight Tools in a shady neighborhood in order to get a bag for my journaling supplies.

It was then home for some patio play time while I sipped a cocktail and made dinner.  I love when the busy days end somewhat peacefully!

Tuesday was more representative of an average day in our home.  I had too much to do to go anywhere.  We resumed schoolwork and I did a lot of work on my t-shirt business and getting this blog set up.  I dealt with some personal stressors.

In the evening, Claudia and I sat on the patio and waited for Stuart to come home.  After dinner, they did the dishes together.

Wednesday, I was in much better spirits but still stayed busy.  You’ll notice Claudia wore the same dress for a couple of days.  She’s a serious outfit repeater and there is no point in arguing with a strong-willed toddler.  We did the usual routine of lots of working and organizing on my behalf (with my little shadow) and lots of school and video games for the boys.

(shirt can be found at a Southern Medley)

Claudia and I cleaned and organized my vanity, which was desperately needed.  It had become a dumping ground for her toys and my paperwork.  I intended to purge some items, but ended up just tossing an expired foundation and a nearly-empty lip gloss.

The highlight of Wednesday (and let’s be honest, my week) was some fun mail!  I got in my BaubleBar order and a Zulily cardigan (I included my BB referral link if you want to go check out what they have)!  I then ended the day as usual, with my best helper making dinner with me (or trying to eat the butter through the package).

You won’t believe what we did Thursday – yep, school, working, organizing, and cleaning.  I also took some pictures for a review I am working on (I did it for social media, but will post some of it here when I am done).  I did a thorough cleaning of our bedroom and also started wrapping up the setup for this site.

Y’all already know my shadow was there for it all.  Please know I adore my boys too, but they don’t love pictures and they certainly don’t stay under me all day.

I had so much work to do Friday, that I didn’t even talk to the boys until after noon.  We decided to just skip school for the day, since our Friday work is usually just art projects or wrapping up stuff from the week.  We weren’t behind on anything, so I decided to let it go.  The boys suggest we do a Monday-Thursday school week.  I am considering it!

Friday was a fun mail day again and as soon as Claudia saw the box, she said, “It’s makeup!”  She is completely my mini.

And then?  It was Saturday.

My Saturdays and Sundays always begin the same way – coffee in bed, then mimosas.  We then have a late brunch at home, during which I work in my journal and don’t lift a finger otherwise.  It’s quite a lovely break from my hectic weekday mornings.

In exchange for pooping on the potty, Claudia got her hair washed and blown out, nails painted, and makeup done.  Best of all, she got to put on her Minnie dress.   I continued to sip on wine during the afternoon and then Claudia helped us make dinner.  Stuart let Claudia chop veggies and my anxiety was off the charts, so I had to look away!

Super Bowl Sunday rolled around and started with coffee.  To be honest, I drank way too much all day Saturday and couldn’t look at a mimosa until I got some food in my stomach.  Oops.

(mug can be found at a Southern Medley)

Claudia and Quentin had a great dance party with Stuart while he made brunch.  Once I was mimosa-ready, I got my drink and did my Superbowl makeup look while Stuart went to work for a bit.  I then did some more design work before settling in for the Super Bowl.  I am super spoiled and got my daily leg rub, this time with Claudia’s help.  I couldn’t be happier with the results of the game and boy it was intense in the end!

I hope your week was lovely and that you got some pampering too!  Let us know what you’ve been up to.

If you haven’t already, click on over to Ashley’s recap!

Valentine’s Gift Guide: For him, for her, and for the littles

Since February 14 will be here before you know it, we thought it’d be a great idea to put together a little Valentine’s Day gift guide for you guys. We’ve kept it short and sweet, and tried to think of some non-traditional things. Anyone can go grab a bunch of flowers and a box of candy! We wanted to suggest some gifts that your loved one can enjoy year round, and maybe some things that he or she wouldn’t have thought to invest in for themselves.

Nickel & Suede Starter Pack Gift Sets – N&S’s leather earrings make a bold statement, while being lightweight and comfortable.

Sweet Pea – $75.00

Azalea – $75.00

Pretty Drink Cups – If your lady is anything like us, she wouldn’t turn away a pretty SB cup/mug/tumbler. Obviously, it wouldn’t have to be SB, but they sure have some lovely options. You can shop online or in store, you know, if you happen to be doing your VDay shopping last minute. 😉

Pink Hot Cup (10 floz) – $18.95

Personalized Jewelry – One of Ashley’s really good friends from college owns and operates an Etsy shop (Mississippi Mayhem) wherein she makes the cutest stuff including a ton of hand stamped metal jewelry, key chains, etc that are all completely handmade and most are customizable. She also has some really other great pieces of handmade jewelry for sale. We think this Dopamine Necklace would be a great VDay gift for any lady in your life. The dopamine molecule is central to the rewards systems in our brain, and it has become a modern symbol of love and pleasure. So why not gift your valentine some literal love? 😉

Dopamine Necklace – $8.99 plus shipping

Dollar Shave Club Subscription – Your first month of a 2, 4, or 6-blade razor is just $1, with free shipping. Then, they will ship a full cassette of cartridges every month for as little as $3. Cancel anytime with a few clicks.  We use Dollar Shave Club ourselves and can vouch for the quality and service!

Dollar Shave Club Products – If you just want to get him some extra goodies, DSC also offers the option to just purchase their products. Maybe he already has a subscription? Maybe you don’t want to invest in the subscription? Either way, these luxurious products are things he would probably never buy for himself, but he most probably desperately needs them and deserves some pampering!

Easy Shave Butter (6oz) – $8
Disappearing Post Shave Dew (3.4oz) – $9
Mandatory Prep Scrub (3oz) – $9
Vital Pre Shave Oil (1oz) – $9

His Favorite Drinks – The simple gesture of a bottle of good whiskey or a case of craft beer goes a long way!  Rhonda recommends beer from a local brewery and Johnnie Walker Black Label.

Bottle Opener – And speaking of dranks…what beer (or rootbeer?) loving guy couldn’t use a handy dandy portable and fashionable bottle opener?? This is another product from the Etsy Shop Mississippi Mayhem. Her credit card sized personalizable bottle opener would make such a cute gift for that guy in your life.
Credit Card Bottle Opener – $8.99 plus shipping

Books – Giving any kid, of any age, a book for any occasion is never the wrong choice. We found some really cute Love Inspired/Themed books from Target.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse! by Laura Joffe Numeroff– $5.69

Love from The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle – $6.94

Arts and Crafts – Encouraging your children (or someone else’s child) to invest time in arts and crafts is a genuine act of love. Why? Because there are so many benefits that a child can reap from active involvement in various types of arts and crafts activities such as developing fine motor and bilateral coordination, increased imaginations, self regulation, self esteem booster, and bonding. Not to mention, arts and crafts are just a really fun way to spend your time!
Hand Made Modern – Stitch Kit – Heart Ornaments – $7.99

Kid Made Modern Driveway Party Outdoor Kit – $19.99

Hand Made Modern – Wood Grid Top Box – $5.99

We hope that our little list has inspired you, or possibly made your VDay gift a million times easier – because you just clicked one of our handy dandy links that we gathered. 😉 Either way we are wishing for a love-filled February 14th for all of you guys and your loved ones. And truth be told, Valentine’s Day should be about just that. A day that you set aside to show some extra love to all those you hold dear in your life. No presents required. 😉

Let us know if our guide helped you choose or think of a gift, and fill us in on your Valentine’s Day plans!

What is Rage Against the MOMachine, anyway?

Well hello ladies and gents! Welcome to our very first post. 🙂 We do have an About Page where you can read about us some more, but we wanted our first post to be a more in-depth look at who we are and what this brand of ours is going to be all about.

Ok, ladies give us the kid run down:

Ashley: I have two little babies whose names are Cooper Grice and Sophie Grace. Coop is three (well he turns four in April…..whaaaat???) and Soso is sixteen months. Cooper is promised to Rhonda’s youngest (Claudia). Haha We are crazy. As you will soon see. Anyway, we routinely discuss their future engagement and wedding. I mean. Kidding of course. Maybe. 😉 But yeah, those are my sweet little ones. They are, hands down, always the best part of my day. They are the people I look forward to seeing the most. They can cure any bad mood with those tiny little hugs and kisses. They are the reason I wake up in the morning. They are the little loves of my life.

Rhonda: Nicholas was born in 2006, making me a single mother. I loved my time alone with him, but soon met someone who took over as his Dad. We went on to have Harper in 2009, then got married and had Quentin in 2011 and Claudia in 2014. We are now divorced and share custody of the children. They are lucky to have a bunch of adults who think they are everything. Nicholas and Harper are in full-on homeschool (they were previously in public schools), Quentin is slowly easing in, and Claudia is still at the scribbling-on-things-she-is-not-supposed-to stage of her education.

What is Rage Against the MOMachine, and what can we expect to get when we stop by?:

Rage Against the MOMachine is a brand that we wanted to create – the idea came first…name later. We wanted to create a place where we can talk about being moms and not being moms. We wanted a place to talk about being the kind of mom we want to be and not the kind of mom that is expected. We’re really not the type of people to adhere to any set of ‘rules’ or ‘guidelines’ when it comes to most every aspect of parenting. Why? Well, mainly because we want to do this the way we want to do it. These are our kids. Why should we let someone else tell us how to raise them, teach them, guide them, and love them? And also, if we are being completely honest, we don’t forget to remember ourselves. Sometimes we do what we want, in spite of what our kids want. That’s life. We’re the adults. We truly believe that our kids quality of life is better, because we remember to take care of ourselves too.

We don’t want RATMM to just be a place for moms to go. We want this to be an environment wherein dads, stepdads, stepmoms, aunts, uncles, grandmothers, grandfathers, godparents, your best friend who loves your kids but doesn’t have any of her own – feel completely welcome and connected. Mommying is a fucking hard job, and we know that we couldn’t do it without all the other amazing adults who play a part in our kids lives. In our lives. As they say, it takes a village.

Tell us about your Day Job(s):

So, Ashley here: My current day job is at a local Shipping and Moving company. Basically, I work in the office. I answer phones, process job paperwork, do billing, and whatever else comes up. It’s a pretty chill job and completely different from my previous jobs. Previously, I’ve worked in management at a women’s clothing store and for a few brief years – I was in restaurant management. So, I come to you with tons of customer service and leadership experience. The job I have now is great because like I said it is chill, and it allows me to have more time with my two babies. I only work part-time and I’m always off by five and on Saturdays and Sundays. However, I was itching for something creative to get my hands in. Thankfully, my best betch approached me with this little nugget of an idea, and well….we ran with it. Speaking of my best betch…

Rhonda: I do a lot. Some paid, some not. After 10 years in retail management, I decided to give it all up to stay home with my kids and put more energy into homeschooling them and working on my businesses. I have a graphic tee shop and a resale shop currently. I am forever running to the post office with a chubby wrist in one hand my phone in the other.

We hope you have enjoyed a peek into our lives. Be sure to click the buttons to the right to find us on social media. We look forward to seeing you around and learning more about you!
