Nickel and Suede: A Love Story

Hey you guys – Ashley here! If you’re new to the blog…and us – you may be wondering..what’s Nickel and Suede?? Nickel and Suede is an accessory company developed, owned and operated by Kilee  [aka One Little Momma] and her husband. They sell a few clothing items, chokers, cuffs, and the most beautiful and life changing leather earrings you’ve ever seen. Those leather earring. That’s what I’m here to talk about. If you read our weekly What We Wore Wednesday posts – then you know I wear N&S earrings everyday. I’m obsessed. Well the fact is WE, here at Rage Against the MOMachine, are both obsessed. So yeah. This is my Nickel and Suede love story. 🙂

How We Met:

I was first introduced to Kilee of One Little Momma through Rhonda, of course. haha I was searching for something new to do with my next bobish hair cut. Rhonda sent me a link…or a screen shot ( I can’t remember which one…) to Kilee’s cut. If you’re curious her The Great Hair Post is the perfect place to go check out her do. I loved it, and copied her of course. 🙂 I didn’t stop there though. I was intrigued by her style. I wanted to know more. So, I started reading her blog. That was where I was introduced to Nickel and Suede. She wore her earrings in … well in every picture. I loved them. So I’d go look at the site. Browse through all the choices. Agonize over whether or not I should buy a pair. I mean. They aren’t cheap. They are on average $25.00 a pair. Which now typing that, I’m like…but that isn’t bad! However, that’s with hindsight. In that moment it was hard to contemplate spending that much on a pair of earrings. Just a pair of leather earrings. Boy was I wrong.

Why I Fell In Love:

The first pair of N&S earrings I ordered was their ‘Lip Gloss’ shade. I ordered them in size medium. You guys. When you buy a pair of N&S earrings the box says ‘Life Changing Leather Earrings’. That may seem a little dramatic, but it’s really not. First of all, beyond any aesthetic reason the quality of these earrings is fantastic and outstanding. They have survived all the hazards of being a mom. My children pull on them…we rough house while I wear them…I’ve napped in them…I wear them every single day. Not one of my earrings has ever suffered any damage that causes me to not be able to wear them anymore. Despite all the things they’ve been through – they still look just as good as the first day I got them in the mail. Secondly, they are incredibly comfortable. I now wear the size large – and they make a huge statement – without any kind of discomfort. I don’t have to worry about a heavy earring pulling down my earlobe. And the aesthetic reasons? Well they are beautiful. I think there is a N&S earring for any outfit and/or occasion. They can be casual, dressy, and every thing in between.

A True and Lasting love into the Future:

Like I’ve said several times in the post, but I only wear N&S earrings. I don’t plan to ever wear any other type of earrings. I tell everyone who asks…and some people who don’t…about my N&S earrings. I don’t just say…”Oh Thanks!” if someone compliments them. I say “Thanks” BUT I also tell them exactly how to find them on their own. If I have time I tell them a little about the story of N&S. This is a family owned and operated company that was dreamed up by an inspiring woman. Their products are top notch, and I really like the people behind the products. I’ve bought my sister and my mom a pair of N&S earrings. They love them too. You can’t not love them if you put them in your ears. I’ve got a small little collection started, and I can’t wait to add more to it each month!

Week In Review: Rhonda

Hello, hello!  I have kicked off this Monday in the best mood.  It is really exciting to know that my vacation is starting later this week.  I have a lot to do between now and then, so I am pounding the coffee and getting shit done.  Let’s recap the past week, shall we?

Last Monday, I kicked the week off by beginning the packing process for my trip.  I knew I needed to make some lists, plan some outfits, and figure out what pieces I needed to shop for.  I was surprised to need more than I thought.  Some of my shorts are too big now and wouldn’t work.  I kept to a mix-and-matchable color palette of black, grey, and olive.

Swimsuit shopping happened Tuesday.  This was probably my third suit shopping trip this month.  So annoying.  It’s the worst when you have been working your ass off to lose weight and get in shape, but your damn mama tummy is still there.  I finally had success though and walked away with some pieces to mix and match.

Also on Tuesday, I was able to reveal something really exciting, which was my results after THREE DAYS of this hot new whitening toothpaste.  I am so impressed and so were my friends.  I sold three tubes within half an hour of sharing.  If you want in too, drop a comment and I’ll get you more information.

We went shopping again Wednesday, with me desperately trying to find some pieces for my vacation.  It wasn’t a success in the least, but we had a good time.

Thursday, Claudia and I went out on a little shopping excursion again.  She proudly dressed herself and was rewarded (bribed) with popcorn and an Icee in hopes that I could actually focus on the task at hand, completing my vacation shopping.  Success!

Friday was a park day for us.  Usually, I stand there and half-watch them, waiting for them to be done playing, sneezing my ass off.  I decided to take a different approach this time, needing a base tan for my upcoming vacation.  I laid out a blanket in the green space, close enough to the playground to keep an eye.  I was silly to think I could read though.  Between random parents feeling the need to talk to me and my kids wanting me to help them blow bubbles, that just didn’t happen.  It was lovely anyway though and I got some color!

Saturday is always such a relief from the stressors of the week.  The kids enjoy sleeping in and having stress-free time with me.

We started out the beautiful day enjoying a 20-degree drop in temperature from the day before.  We made all these fun plans to get outdoors.  Then we drank all the mimosas and it didn’t happen.  What did happen was a cranky ass toddler.  She cried because we wouldn’t shave her head then cried because Stuart wouldn’t give her bacon that he just started cooking.  He finally handed her a raw piece, but she couldn’t get down with that.  I can’t imagine why.

We did get out in late evening to make a grocery run.  Claudia couldn’t hang.  She fell asleep in the car.

Sunday was more of what you have probably come to expect from my weekends – mimosas and family time.  I didn’t get out of my robe until after five and even then, put on shorts and a tee.

Next week, I will not be posting my Week in Review, as I will be on vacation!  When I get back though, I plan on a vacation recap.  You can keep up with my girl-time shenanigans by following us on Instagram and Snapchat.

Week In Review: Ashley

Hey there! So glad to see you guys on this lovely Monday morning. Whaaat? I’m not hating on MONDAY?! Yup. You read that correctly. I’m actually kinda in love with this Monday, because this Monday is the start to my vacation! A super fancy vacation that I will mostly spend at home with my babies..but a vacation nonetheless. 😉 But really – I think we are going to really enjoy ourselves.

Ok anyway..enough with the here and now…what did we do this past week?? Leeet’s see. Wednesday we started out with a beach day. We woke up pretty early that morning to start getting ready.

Look at those cuties. 🙂 Their swimsuits are from Target. Sophie’s is this from this year, but Coop’s is from last year. I like getting the sets with actual shirts because it decreases the areas that I have to worry about applying and reapplying sunscreen. Also, they are very cute. 😉

I tried to pack as minimally as possible for the day. We just brought towels, a blanket, some sand toys, a few drinks, and sunscreen. The beach is literally five miles from our house so it’s not a long trip and completely worth it even if we only spend a couple hours there. It ended up being a really great day in general, but the morning at the beach really fun. The kids had a blast. After they were ready to go we loaded up (Soso was NOT happy about that – there was lots of screaming and whining on her part to stay…. ) and we headed to Chick-Fil-A to grab some lunch. They ate their lunch and Sophie took a nap while Coop basically rested in the bed. I got a ton of laundry and chores done. After naps….we hit up the car wash and did a quick half hour trip to a park near our house.

That night was pretty typical….playing…eating dinner…the bath and bed time. 🙂

Thursday night I cooked the Moracaan Chicken Stuffed Acorn Squash recipe from Eat Happy.

It smelled DELICIOUS while it was cooking…and tasted pretty good too! If you have this cookbook and are interested – I added chili pepper flakes to the chicken/squash filling and melted some cheese on top of the finished stuffed squash halves. What can I say..cheese makes everything better and well I add chili pepper flakes to basically everything I cook. lol

The weekend was pretty jam packed. We had skating birthday party to attend on Saturday afternoon, and Sunday was filled with swimsuit shopping ( for mommy ) and a playdate that afternoon for Coop.

The skating party was a lot of fun. That was the first time Cooper had ever skated, and I fully expected him to be to timid to try. However he surprised the heck out of me! He used the walker for help for a bit, but ended up going all over the rink on his own! It was so cute to watch him…and definitely a very proud mommy moment. He even went out and did the birthday limbo with the other kids. AND he ate an entire piece of pizza when everyone gathered back for food and cake. That’s pretty miraculous because this kid NEVER eats. Sophie had fun too. She was dieing to get out on the floor and skate too…of course…but she’s just a little to small for that still.

And Sunday. We had a good day. Successful play dates….solo time with Daddy for Coop…and some girl shopping for Mommy, Sophie, and Aunt Grace. 🙂 My swimsuit tops are from Old Navy…all their swimsuit pieces are 40% off currently.

What were YOU GUYS up to last week?

Rhonda’s Five Wardrobe Essentials

I am sure you have noticed how much I repeat basic themes and pieces in my outfits. There are some things that I just feel good in, just feel like myself in. In addition to that, there are some items that I keep in my wardrobe because they get pulled out from time to time without fail and bring me joy. So, to follow up to Ashley’s post, here are my five wardrobe essentials.

  1. Denim Jacket – Y’all, such a jacket has not been featured in my outfits, but there’s a good reason for that.  I just bought one yesterday for the first time in 10 YEARS!  I lost one when I was pregnant with my oldest son and I never replaced it.  I just never found one I liked enough.   Yesterday, I found the perfect distressed number and now I want MORE.  I can’t wait to wear this with everything.

    jacket from Target
  2. Graphic Tees – At least twice a week, I can be seen in a graphic tee or tank.  I can’t get enough of them.  Whether it’s a band tee, a cheeky phrase, or an abstract design, graphic tees can be styled so many ways…absolutely one of the most versatile articles of clothing.  By the way, I design and sell graphic tees and tanks here
  3. Red Heels – Nothing makes me feel as sexy and powerful as a pair of red heels.  I have put on some pretty BLAH outfits, but threw on red heels and felt amazing.  One of my favorite things to do is pair them with the aforementioned graphic tee and jeans.
  4. Kimonos – I probably have too many, especially considering I wear the same three on repeat.  They are so easy to wear and make me feel perfectly boho. There are so many ways to style them and they even make a great swimsuit coverup.  I know the trend will die eventually, but I’m hanging on until I personally get tired of looking at them. All pictured are from Amazon and the one on the bottom right is currently in my shop here.
  5. Converse – There is no casual shoe I love more than Converse.  I wear them a few times a week.  They go with dresses, jeans, shorts, skirts – literally everything.  If you don’t have any, get them.  Get any color to start.  And wear them – just put them on with everything.

What are your wardrobe essentials?  Do we share any of the same ones?

Currently We Are….

Heeey Y’all! Happy Thursday…you know that beautiful day right before FriYAY?! Hope you guys are having a wonderful one, and we’re so glad to see you! Today we wanted to do one of those “Currently…” blog posts. We just think these are cute because it gives you a more candid glimpse into our minds and lives. Hopefully you guys enjoy it! And who knows?  You might just learn something new about us too. 😉

Ashley –

  1. Wanting/Needing: Hmmmm do you have all day? 😉 I’m actually currently feening for some new makeup. I’ve been on a “no buy”, in regards to makeup, for this month…. soo let’s just say that I’m super glad it’s the 20th. What’s on my list to purchase? Well, let me show ya:
  2. Watching: I cannot even remember the last time I sat down and watched something other than a video on YouTube. Oh wait. That’s a lie. I did watch the movie The Arrival a couple weeks ago. It was really good! What am I watching on  YouTube? Well you know…lots of makeup tutorials really. lol I’m slightly obsessed.
  3. Listening To: I’ll let my Amazon Music Play list speak for itself here….
  4. Obsessed With:  My dry shampoo adventures. LOL In an attempt to keep my hair color from fading so quickly AND take better care of my hair in general – I’m trying to utilize dry shampoo more regularly and not wash my hair so much. I typically wash my hair every morning. I went four days without washing prior to Tuesday morning. And today I’m feeling like a badass because I just dry shampooed my beach hair from yesterday and am going with it. hahaha I’m using Batiste (the original). I love it…but I think I’ll switch to the ‘Beautiful Brunette’ variety next time.
  5. Planning For: I have a week vacation coming up next week. So, I’ve been trying to plan something fun that the kids and I can do – you know, something different from our usual activities. I definitely want to do a beach day somewhere different from home. My mom suggested Dauphin Island (in Alabama), because it’s not that far of a drive and the waters should be calmer. Soo yeah. We shall see on that. 🙂

What about you Rhonda? What’s going on with YOU currently?

Rhonda –

  1. Wanting/Needing: Well… Like Ashley said, do you have all day?  I always want makeup and clothes, that’s a given.  But let me give you just one specific beauty item and one specific style item.  I am dying for Tarte’s new unicorn brushes.  Aside from that, I also want AND need some black skinnies (the particular ones below are ASOS).

  • 2. Watching: The better question might be, what am I not watching?   I DVR so much stuff, but my never-fall-behind shows are LIVE! With Kelly, Dateline, This Is Us, Pretty Little Liars, Southern Charm and …..well, okay, I watch a lot y’all.  I love the DVR because it allows me to keep up and watch TV at my convenience.  I watch a lot of reality TV for sure.  Anyway, most recently watched Man With a Plan on the DVR while I cleaned.
  • 3. Listening To: I have been working on my annual girls’ trip playlist, so I have been listening to my iTunes on shuffle and saving to the playlist.  And as you can see in the screenshot, Champagne Problems by Nick Jonas is on at the moment.  I have very eclectic taste in music.
  • 4. Obsessed With: My upcoming trip.  It’s now a week away and I am in full-on prep mode.  Shopping, packing, planning logistics, repacking…. It’s on.  I am so ready to be in paradise.
  • 5. Planning For: Well, I already mentioned the trip for next week and I am definitely planning that, but beyond that, I am planning for my 7-year-old’s 8th birthday party and a WEDDING that is one week and one day away.

What do you currently have going on?

Amazon Subscribe and Save

Hey you guys! Hope the beginning of your week is going fabulously, and I’m super glad you decided to come check us out today! Sooo as you can tell from my title I’m going to be talking about Amazon’s Subscribe and Save feature that they offer. What IS Subscribe and Save??

So basically I use Amazon S&S to stock our household with all those necessities that I buy month after month. Why use Amazon S&S? Well.. First of all I get a discount on the items. When I set up my monthly subscriptions, I made sure to scour WalMart and Target and make sure that they didn’t have cheaper deals. Secondly, it just makes things easier. I can set up these monthly deliveries and not have to think about remembering those things in addition to the MILLION other things I buy when I’m at WalMart or Target. Amazon sends me an email each month reminding me of what I have coming and let’s me know the deadline for updating my order. Most months – I don’t even touch it…or think about it for that matter. I have done a little overhauling lately BUT that was the first time in months that I’d had to.

If you are an Amazon Prime Member and use their S&S service you automatically save 20% on all diapers and pull-ups. This savings was the main reason I started using the S&S service. For a while, I had two littles in diapers/pull-ups. That gets expensive…so any little bit of savings is appreciated.

When you have four or more subscriptions coming to your house in one month (i.e. five items) you save an additional 5% on each item. If you increase your monthly delivery to five items, you will save 15% on each item. You may think you wouldn’t need that many items delivered each month, but I’m telling you…I reach the five amount several months..with ease. There honestly hasn’t been something I wanted to add to my subscription that the Amazon S&S Store didn’t have. So yeah. Basically…you need to look into this service. 🙂

Ok now …what am I ordering every month??

Those are the next four months of my S&S orders. You can see visually see the frequency…but let’s chat about that for a bit.

  1. Cottonelle Toilet Paper – 36 ct (I order two  of these) each month
  2. Mrs. Meyer’s Liquie Hand Soap (Lavendar Scent) – This is actually a new addition. I have it set to every month right now, but I may change it to every other. We shall see!
  3. Amazon Elements Baby Wipes – 720 ct I have this set for every other month. Obviously I use these for wiping butts … however I always end up finding all kinds of other various reasons to whip them out on the daily. 😉
  4. Pull Ups – These are for Soso. I get a 74 ct box each month.
  5. Opti Free Contact Solution – I get one pack of two 10 oz bottles each month. I used to just do every other month, but I found that I was continually running out…so I increased the frequency.
  6. Palmolive Dish Soap – I get a 2 pack of 38 fl oz bottles each month. This frequency works well for us, because we don’t have a dishwasher so we was use a crap ton of dish soap! (You don’t see it on my May order because it is currently unavailable so Amazon temporarily stopped the delivery…as soon as they get it in stock they ship it out at no extra cost.)
  7. Scotch Brite Sponges – I get an 18 ct pack every five months which has worked out well so far!

And that’s it you guys. These are the things I have on rotation currently, but one of the greatest things about S&S is the flexibility with which you have to change and move things around. The offer a suggested frequency with which to order things…which is what I did and then tweeked things in the beginning as I learned how much we used of each product.

Thanks for reading along! And thank you Whimsical September for the inspiration for this post! What about y’all…do you use Amazon S&S or some other form of bulk purchasing for your necessities?

Week In Review: Ashley

Hey guys! So glad you decided to come by and see what we have been up to this past week. One thing I can tell you that I apparently was NOT up to…taking pictures. So yeah…not much visual evidence of my week…hopefully you’ll just take my word for it. 😉

I started to type “Wednesday I was home …” and it occurred to me that I always start my WIR with Wednesday even though I leave off the previous week at Sunday. What do we do on Mondays and Tuesdays? Nothing interesting. I work. Pick up the kids. Go home. Make dinner. Clean the house. Get ready for bed. Go to sleep. Basically anyway. 😉

OK so anyway…back to Wednesday – I was home with the kids that day. We went to the park, because duh.

After the park the kids … ok just one kid, Sophie … took a nap. Cooper refused to nap. Then we ran around picking out birthday presents for our last two Spring Time family birthdays: my sister and their mawmaw. Shopping with kids is always fun…right? Lol We survived though and ended up with some really cute gifts to give.

Friday night I had some kid free time to enter the crowded hell called the “Target Easter Section”, and scooped up the kid’s easter basket goodies. I ended up going to Michael’s as well for the actual baskets. All their baskets were 50% off, and the ones I grabbed are baskets that I would use again for something non easter related. I mean really. I’m not going to spend $10+ on baskets I’ll just end up throwing away. I ALSO dyed my hair that night. I just went to a dark cool brown. Something that is more low maintenance and should fade well into my natural color. After dyeing my hair I got to meet up with one of my favorite people and really good friend, Michael, for a late dinner at Newks.

Saturday, I picked the kids up and we had lunch at Outback to celebrate their Mawmaw’s birthday, which was earlier in the week. After lunch, we went to WalMart to buy eggs for dyeing. Target was out of eggs the night before and Walmart’s shelves were basically barren as well! I was able to find one dozen…so we got that headed back home. While Sophie napped that afternoon, Cooper and I dyed eggs. I bet you never realized all the waiting that is actually involved in dyeing easter eggs. I did. Thanks to my impatient four year old. 😉 It was fun though. 🙂 And HE enjoyed himself…which was the point.

And then Sunday – well that day was a good good day. Cooper woke up SO excited to see what the Easter Bunny had left him. I swear he was more excited that morning than he was on Christmas morning last year! It was super cute. 🙂 Sophie was very happy to receive some “tandy”. After rummaging through their baskets and a little playing…we got ready and loaded up to go pick up Aunt Grace and head to Grammy and Ppop’s for the day. We had a yummy lunch…did a little swimming…had a successful egg hunt…and we were even able to fit in some shopping time! That evening we dropped Grace off at home and spent a little time at the kid’s Mawmaw and Pawpaw’s house. 🙂

What have y’all been up to all week? What Easter traditions do you celebrate?

Week In Review: Rhonda

Another week in the books, folks.  Holiday weeks always fly by for me and this was no exception.  What’s super exciting is that I am now TEN DAYS from my vacation, which means I can NOT let this week fly by.  I have so much prep to do for the trip!

I had a typical Monday.  Lots of stress, clowning kids, and work.  Restocked the shop and now I have so much in stock!

We studied moon phases on Tuesday, which was a hit for all four kids.  I was incredibly impressed that even Quentin fully understood and retained the information.  I got a great workout in, even doing my planks with two children on my back.  In the afternoon, I made Nick help me out with the shop.  He hated every second.

The littles went to Ulta with me on Wednesday.  They were obsessed with the lighted wall portions and wanted to take like fifteen pictures in front of it.  I didn’t get anything super exciting, just some pore cleansers and stuff.

Thursday was playground day, mostly due to the fact that we had a plumbing issue and waiting around on the maintenance guy to come was annoying.  We decided to just get the hell out of the house.  I somehow always forget that the playground we like is overrun by school kids between 12 and 1 every day.  We ended up ditching it and trying a new park.  It was a hit and I am glad, because it is super close to home!

I also started working on my vacation wardrobe, trying to figure out what I am taking and what I need to buy.  All the color and pattern in my closet and I chose a bunch of black and olive green.  Typical.

Friday, we did some watercolor painting for school, then Claudia and I went in search of some things for my vacation. I am a romper lover and seriously over half of what I tried on was rompers and that was not intentional.  I just gravitate toward them.

On Saturday, I got the rare opportunity to go shop solo after brunch.  I was determined to find a swimsuit for my trip, but not surprisingly, that was a fail.  You know what wasn’t a fail?  Restocking my sparkling water supply.

Easter Sunday was lovely, but really not much different from any other Sunday.  We didn’t leave the house and I stayed in my robe all day.  Nobody wore pants.  I lived vicariously through everyone on Facebook in their Easter outfits.

In the wee hours of Sunday morning, I busted my ass carrying Claudia down the stairs.  I now have a gnarly bruise on my ass.  It is super painful and I can’t even sit normally or lie on my back.  A group I am in on Facebook completely imploded when I took shit to a petty and dramatic level.  I was just all done with it.

Did you have a good Easter?  What do you do for the holiday

Happy Birthday Baby Sister

Whew! So today was a whirlwind. Today was Easter Sunday … Rhonda’s BFF’s bday AND it’s my baby sister’s birthday! Every year I usually do a sappy FaceBook post about her, but this year Rhonda and I have this fantastic blog so DUH I’m going to write a whole sappy BLOG post for Grace.

Grace is my little sister. Today she turns twenty-seven. I can’t believe that. I still remember the day my parents told me that they were going to give me a little sister. I pretty much was under the impression that she was for me. 😉 But yeah. We weren’t the best of friends from the beginning. I actually once tried to get my parents to let me sleep in the laundry room in an effort to move out of our shared room. Yup. I was prepared to put a mattress on top of the washer and dryer. Thankfully, we moved past all that drama,  😉 and now I consider her my closest friend – as well as the best sister a girl could ask for.

She’s pretty much an amazing person. I admire the way that she stands up for what she believes in and just doesn’t give a fuck about what other people think. She is incredibly caring and considerate, but she knows how to tell you like it is when necessary.

Grace is an incredible aunt to my babies. I can say without a doubt that she loves them just as much as I do. They adore her. They ask for her. They get excited to see her. They miss her when life gets busy and we can’t hang out as much as normal. She is active and involved in their lives by choice. All of that. That speaks volumes for the kind of woman that she is.

I am also so so proud of the things she’s accomplished personally and professionally. She is currently living and breathing a successful relationship and marriage that had the odds stacked against it when it comes to whether or not it would survive the distance and work that they had to put into it. (And also shout out to her hubby…because I know a marriage won’t work unless BOTH people involved put the work in) She is a FSR at one of our local banks – and she’s just doing an amazing job. She started out as a teller and has quickly worked her way up.

I’m pretty sure that it’s not very often that you can find a true best friend in your sister. I know people say that. I’m not just saying it. I’m so grateful to have her in my life. To call her my confidant and to know that she feels the same way about me. I always knew I wanted to name my child after her…in some form or fashion. I didn’t get to do that with Coop, BUT Sophie Grace got her aunt’s name. Both my children’s middle names are significant and family related. I love that. I love that you can transfer all the memories you associate with a person to their name and pass that on to someone else. There’s absolutely no other woman’s name that I’d want my daughter to carry than my awe-inspiring little sister.

So, Aunt Grace – we love you. We think you are the bee’s knees. We are so happy that we got to spend the day with you…and we hope that it was all that you wanted. Here’s to twenty-seven and beyond!
