Goals: Looking Back and Moving Forward

Well, tomorrow is my birthday and then it’s New Year’s Eve, so it’s time for me to set goals to smash.  I am a major goals person.  I am always setting, evaluating, and amending goals.  It’s okay for your goals to change over the time you set for them.  Sometimes priorities change and we realize something isn’t all that important to us anymore.

At the beginning of 2017, I set 7 goals.  Now, I share with you what they were and how I did this year.

Reach 120 pounds.  120 has been my goal weight for years now, because that’s about what I weighed before I had children.  I once again did not reach it.  I could give you all the excuses – I moved, I made a bunch of life changes, blah blah blah – but they would still be excuses.  If you don’t get rid of excuses, you can’t make body changes – period.  I did drop a few pounds, so at least I don’t have as far to go now!

Reach profitability with RGR.  Rhonda Gail Resale is my resale shop, which operates primarily on Poshmark.  I shifted focus in the spring, but still reached a point that it is all profit now!

Journal daily.  I started 2017 with a fresh bullet journal and I have used it all but maybe 5 days the entire year, so I will mostly call that a win!

Set a wedding date.  Oh, we set it alright.  Then we pushed it back and don’t have a solid date yet.  You’ll hear more about this later.

Grow hair past my shoulders.  It looks awful at the ends because I’m past do for a hair appointment, but it’s there at least – just barely!

Return to ASU.  I have literally one class to finish to have my bachelor’s degree and I intended to at least get enrolled again in 2017.  It just didn’t happen, due to financial reasons, such as we moved into a house instead of paying my school bills.

Blog biweekly.  As you will know if you have been reading here all year, this has been a success.  Actually, when I first made these goals, this blog didn’t exist just yet, but I was blogging regularly on the blog I had before this one.

I am pleased with what I did in 2017.  I did a LOT of things that I  had not originally planned for and I can’t be mad at that!  Now, to take a look at what I am planning for 2018.  This time, I took a tracking approach to my goals, to ensure that I have a way to check progress as I go.

Weight: 120.  Not only am I more determined than ever to get there, but I am pushing myself to do it by April 2, so that I don’t have the relaxed attitude of “eh, it’s only May, so the year isn’t over.”  Besides, I want to be a hot bride.

Rank: Royal.  This pertains to my Senegence business, in which I hope to do many things this year, but the rank gives me something I can easily track.

Launch my boutique.  I am opening a boutique this year and have simplified the remaining steps I have in order to track my progress in launching.

Get married!  Now we have to decide how big (how small is more accurate) this wedding will be and choose a venue.  And I should probably actually finalize my divorce.  Then, we are just going to go for it.

Take my side gig to Peter Anderson Festival.   I am doing marketing and social media for a friend’s business and we want to take the business to a popular arts festival.  Again, simplified the steps to track my progress.

There you have it, guys.  My timely and realistic goals.  I am set up and ready to tackle 2018!  Do you have things you’re excited to accomplish in the new year?

Week In Review: Ashley

Haaaaay guys! So glad to have y’all here for another look into exactly what we’ve been getting into this past week. 🙂

I can’t remember exactly what day it was, but at some point early in the week I realized that I should probably go get Cooper’s Halloween costume from the store. I hadn’t yet bought it because he kept saying that he wanted to be there when it was purchased. Then, the time would come when we had an opportunity to go to the store and he’d rather just go home. So, while I’ve had Sophie’s costume for a while now  – here we were the week before Halloween and Coop was still costumeless.

SO ANYWAY – I took my butt to Walmart…and then Target…and left empty handed. He specifically asked to be a Red Power Ranger. Walmart only had black, and Target only had really small ones or really big ones. I mean. Can we just all simultaneously lift our emoji praise hands toward the Amazon Prime Gods. Cause seriously. How would I even get through life without them?? I have. no. clue. So yeah, Amazon Prime came through with the correctly sized red power ranger costume.  Oh. And also a HUGE shoutout to Grammy for adjusting the length of the pants on the costume…there’s not an option for ‘short’ when you are ordering Halloween costumes. The lesson here? You can always count on Amazon Prime and Grammy in a moment of costume crisis…ok, well ANY moment of crisis. 🙂 😉

Wednesday was my day off from work. We did the usual drill that day. Took Coop to school, got coffee, came home did some chores, and met up with Aunt Grace for a little retail therapy. We also knocked out one of our Fall/Winter Bucket List items – did a little decorating that included having the kids paint. Cooper was disinterested after about five minutes in and went back to his room. Sophie LOVED it. She loved it so much that there was paint every where. A bath was necessary for cleanup. Even I had to change clothes. Cause you know, if your kid has something on their hands they will inevitably touch you. That night was Wine Wednesday Live on our Facebook Page which was a blast, as always. We did stay on for a record breaking time of over three hours!!! Sooo it was way after 12 when I went to bed…I’m sure later for Rhonda who is much more of a night owl than me.  Allll the regret and coffee was had by both of us the next morning. lol It was worth it though. 🙂

This weekend was super chill. I slept a ton. I’m talking at least ten hours on Friday and Saturday night which was pretty dang glorious. Pre-motherhood I slept a lot. I’m not one of those people who can function well on just a few hours of sleep. Besides sleeping, I spent a lot of time with my family over at my parents’ house. Grace and I braved Party City on Saturday afternoon which was a complete cluster. We were saying that we can’t even imagine the craziness that will go down there on Monday and Tuesday (the last two days before Halloween). We also made a random stop at Barnes and Noble where we talked each other into finally getting a bullet journal. We’re really good at talking each other into things…or validating our decisions and/or seemingly frivolous purchases to each other. 😉

Sunday we were all back at my parents to watch the Saints play (and win!) and celebrate my Dad’s upcoming birthday. His actually birthday is on Halloween. I ended the night with a quick trip to Michael’s with my partner in bullet journal crime, Grace, for some bullet journaling markers and then a round of speed grocery shopping through Walmart.

What have you guys been up to? Are you prepared for Halloween?

Week In Review: Rhonda

Happy Labor Day,  y’all!  If you’re into that kind of thing.  I know a lot of you probably do not have the day off.  As a business owner, I have been relaxing all weekend since Stuart took a 4-day weekend.  I haven’t stopped working, just slowed down a little.

Monday through Wednesday passed as they always do – in a blur.  Lots of learning and domesticating and shit.  The kids finally got their mattresses in and can now sleep elevated like most other humans.

Thursday, I started in my new journal since my first one is full and it’s the start of a new month.  The kids took the week to study where they live, starting at the level of our home address, and working through city-county-state-country-continent-planet.  I thought they would be so excited to color a big map together, but no – they fought through it and walked away 7 minutes in.

Stuart stayed home Friday and we went to the store to stock up on some groceries.  I had a terrible sinus headache so I got in bed when we got home.  I didn’t nap (totally not a napper), but lying down for a bit helped.  We commenced our weekend grilling routine Friday night.

Saturday, I decided my summer tan was fading much more quickly than I am comfortable with so I hit the backyard.  I used to keep a tan all year long, but as I’ve aged and started taking better care of my skin, it fades much faster.

I did more of the same on Sunday, but it was a good deal hotter.  I got as close as I could to the fan and utilized a water misting bottle and frozen washcloths on my head to keep cool.  I got some great sun!

It was a really lovely week and we are totally in love with our new house and neighborhood!  What have you been doing over the holiday weekend?

Day In the Life – Rhonda

I have always enjoyed seeing how others live their lives, so when I joined the blogging community over ten years ago, I read every Day In the Life I came across.  I have also done a couple myself because why not write what I love to read?

I decided to do it yesterday, on what I thought would probably be a pretty ordinary day – Wednesday.  I originally had a time jotted down each time I changed activities but it was hard to follow, I’ve decided to break it down hourly for an easier read.

6:01 am- Alarm goes off.  I have a routine to set my alarm to kiss Stuart goodbye before he goes to work.  Life is too short and we aren’t promised tomorrow.  I try to stay up at that time, so that I get a lot done before my kids wake up.  I haven’t been feeling great, so have been going back to sleep.

For the next nearly two hours, I alternate between going to the bathroom, watching the news half-asleep, scrolling Facebook, dozing, and taking medicine.

7:50 am- I check the time, listen and don’t hear kids, so I doze back off after I get up and put on a shirt (I sleep naked).

8:00ish – I have an unknown call and texts from Ashley.  I surf Facebook while waiting for 8:30.  I know that Stuart sets the coffeemaker for 8:30 if I am not fully awake when he leaves for work.  I definitely don’t want to have to wait in the kitchen for the coffee.

For the next hour, I drink coffee and work in my bullet journal, the way I start my weekdays without exception.

9:00 am- Claudia wakes up and comes to my room for her morning routine of OJ and a fruit snack in my bed.  I go refill my coffee and get her “breakfast.”  She drinks all her OJ and half my coffee while we watch Live! With Kelly and Ryan.  I also do some blogging while I watch.

10:00 am- I start laundry, check on some makeup brushes I have drying, and plug in some of the kids’ dying devices.  Then, I go to put chicken in the crock pot because I like to batch cook shredded chicken to use in several different ways.  Well, things get interesting.

As I am putting the empty chicken packaging into the garbage, I somehow spill fucking raw chicken juice allll over my feet, kitchen mat, and floor.  Well, as I am cleaning it off the floor I somehow cut one finger with one of my fingernails.  So, when I am outside cleaning the mat, the bleach spray gets in my wound and I basically feel like I would rather die than do what I am doing.  After all that mess was cleaned up, I am putting the spray back into the cabinet and somehow the bottle breaks and the cleaner goes everywhere.  I finally escape back up stairs, where I put on more laundry.

11:00 am- I finally get my teeth brushed and face washed, then get dressed and do my makeup, all while leisurely watching TV.  This is the time of the day when my kids realize I am boring and go downstairs to destroy that level of the house.

12:00 pm-  In this hour, I make a brand comparison video for my Lipsense business.  Then I get lost in texting all my frans, folding laundry, and watching Four Weddings on TLC.

1:00 pm- I somehow end up wasting time in this hour.  I browse Pinterest for wedding stuff, look online at some houses for sale, and make the kids lunch.

2:00 pm- It’s the kids’ nap hour, which always starts at 2 or 3, depending on what time they woke up.  They are allowed to use personal electronics and the only one who even occasionally naps is Claudia, but that’s the entire point.  I spend the hour working in my journal to get set up for June.  I also have a snack during this time.  It’s usually when I eat my lunch.  In peace, thanks.

3:00 pm- I spend the final nap hour doing some more journaling with HGTV on in the background.

4:00 pm- Knowing I have to start the evening routine, I get to a stopping place in my journal, take a deep breath, and go downstairs to start the chaos.  I go to tell them nap time is over, but find that Claudia is actually asleep.  So I let the boys get up and I take out the trash as usual.  I pick up a few things around the house.  Then, on my way back to my room, I start more laundry.

5:00 pm- I do a weight loss countdown in my journal, with some more HGTV in the background. I text a lot too, which drags everything out.

6:00 pm- I go downstairs since Claudia is now awake.  I start a super fancy dinner for the kids and pour some Shiraz-Grenache.

7:00 pm- I start making dinner for Stuart and me.  We generally eat different things than the kids and we always eat later than them, because I wait for him to get home from work.  While dinner cooks, I’m on social media and sipping my wine.

8:00 pm- Stuart comes home shortly after 8.  We sit down and have dinner together and talk about our days while the kids play.  Claudia spends most of this time on Stuart’s lap, eating his food.  We discuss mortgage loans.

9:00 pm- We begin doing dishes and cleaning the kitchen and sweeping the dining room.  We have drinks and chat (with ALLL the interruptions) while we work.

10:00 pm- We are still cleaning up downstairs for a bit, then we tuck everyone in, take their devices, and go upstairs.  We take our shower (yep, together 90% of the time).  I do some evening journaling while Stuart gets together mortgage documents.

11:00 pm- We turn the lights out and watch news as I finish my wine and Stuart snores within 10 minutes.

12:00 am- After answering a few questions in my Poshmark shop, I finally put my phone down and drift off to sleep.

Week in Review: Rhonda

Well it’s been a rough week.  So rough, that I didn’t even think about writing this post until after noon.  I woke up really sick Monday.  A cold morphed into a sinus infection and I was lucky enough to PMS through the entire thing!

Monday and Tuesday were complete blurs…. post office runs, shots of medicine, and lots of time in the bed reading and watching TV.  Overnight, about 2 am on Tuesday morning, we were woken by the weather.  Tornado sirens forced us into our tiny half bath, but we were very fortunate and suffered no damage.

Wednesday, we made a meal plan and a trip to the grocery store.  I was so excited to cook some yummy stuff.

I honestly can’t tell you what happened Thursday, other than drinking lots of coffee and tea for my throat.  I think I had pretty much hit the worst of my sickness.  I legitimately wanted to sleep all day.

Friday was Claudia’s birthday and we took a trip to her favorite place, Target.  She was able to choose one thing out of the dollar spot and naturally, she chose bubbles.  I hate bubbles, but birthday girl gets what she wants. After Target, I made taco salad and packaged up orders.

Saturday, we celebrated Claudia’s birthday in the best way.  As soon as Dustin got here, we had brunch, then opened presents and had cupcakes.

After that, Claudia and Quentin helped Stuart clean his motorcycle before we grilled burgers for dinner.  I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday.

Sunday we woke to lots and lots of rain.  The patio began to flood, but luckily it stopped short.  We had brunch again as usual then after Dustin headed back home, had some tv time in bed.

Sunday night was the ACM Awards, just about my favorite thing to watch all year.  I completed my journal spread and enjoyed too much vodka.

What did you do this week?  Any celebrations?
