10 Favorite Bloggers to follow on Instagram

Hey y’all! I’m back again with another installment in showing you guys some of my favorite Instagram accounts to follow.  I love Instagram, and I really love how it has evolved into a place where you can basically ‘mini blog’ things. I still spend time everyday traipsing around the internet and checking out my favorite blog sites to see their latest posts, but I also thoroughly enjoy seeing my favorite bloggers on Instagram. I love listening to/watching their Instagram stories – and seeing the things they share on their feed! The internet is just such a beautiful place, and it’s so funny and delightful how you can get to know people through what they share on their blog and social media platforms. There a few bloggers on here that I’ve been following for YEARS – and there are some that are brand new to me, but all of them are a part of my daily life as a peruse social media. 🙂

So let’s get to it shall we? These are my 10 Favorite Blogger Instagram Accounts to Follow:

underthesycamore

I’ve been reading Under The Sycamore for a really long time. Her blog was one of the first blogs I ever started reading regularly. She is so down to earth and insanely creative and an amazing photographer.

keikolynn

Keiko Lynn is another blog that I’ve been following for years. She writes a lot about makeup and fashion. She’s originally from Florida, but lives (has been living) in New York.

mommyshorts

I first discovered Mommy In Shorts through Instagram and moved over to actually reading her blog as well. She also runs the Instagram account Average Parent Problems which is hilarious in and of itself. Her personal account and blog are super entertaining.

thepleatedpoppy

The Pleated Poppy is yet another blog I’ve been following for years. She used to have a store where she handmade goods like purses and pins, but she’s moved away from that now. She writes about her personal life, real mom fashion, and home design ideas.

lovemaegan

Again, I’ve been reading Love Maegan for forever as well. LOL Her blog is mainly centered around fashion and she’s based in California.

onelittlemomma

One Little Momma is a new(ish) follow for me. She’s the creator of our beloved Nickel and Suede earrings that you see showing up in all of our What We wore Wednesday Posts. She writes about all the things mommy lifestyle.

mommyinheels

Another newer follow for me! Mommy In Heels was another blog that I first discovered through Instagram then migrated over to also following her blog. She not only writes a blog and is active on IG, but she is also the owner of Elizabeth West House – a physical and online women’s clothing boutique. Her blog is mainly fashion with a little bit of family life mixed in.

authemmie

I discovered Authemmie through Pinterest….i think… lol . I’ve only been following her blog for a bout a year now. I really enjoy the authenticity from which she writes. She blogs a lot about fashion as well.

livinginyellow

Who doesn’t already know about Living In Yellow? I started following her about a year ago as well. She’s a fashion blogger extraordinaire.

whimsicalseptember

And last but not least, Whimsical September. I first discovered her blog through one of her StitchFix posts on Pinterest. I was totally hooked after that first post. She’s a military wife who blogs about all things mommy lifestyle. Her children are close to the same ages as mine and she’s from Alabama which makes me feel like I can relate to so much that she shares!

Life Lately

Happy Monday, party people!  It’s time for a check in, where we fill you in on the last couple of weeks in our lives and you tell us what’s new with you!

Rhonda –

It has been an amazing couple of weeks over at my house.  Holy moly, what a busy month.  And to think, Stuart and I thought April was going to be boring and quiet.  HA!  We don’t know how to do boring; that’s for damn sure.

We hosted a 30th birthday party for our friend Jenn.  It was a nice laid-back cookout with friends and I think she really enjoyed herself, which is all we wanted.

We dined out a couple of times.  We don’t do that often, but make sure to do take them out as much as we can.  It’s important to me that my kids don’t grow up the way I did, afraid to even order from a server.  We make them order themselves and teach them to be patient waiting for their food to arrive.  They definitely still need practice.  Lawd.

We also are working on decorating and upgrading some furnishings in the house.  We hit up IKEA and loaded as much stuff into the Flex as possible.  What you’re looking at is a bookshelf, a dresser, a dining table, six chairs, and a sideboard!  Holy moly.  I’ll be so glad when we are done putting it all together.  We have been so busy doing other stuff, that we haven’t been able to dedicate enough time to assembly.  We will get there though!

As usual, we have spent a lot of time outdoors and Harper, Quentin, and I all got new bikes!  I was completely surprised by mine and I am also surprised by how much I enjoy riding it!

We wrapped up this past weekend by taking the kids to their first professional baseball game.  The Rangers defeated the Mariners and we had a great family time!

Ashley –

Gosh. I feel the same as Rhonda…seems like so much has happened over the past couple of weeks.

Obviously the usual of work and school took place. We’ve been having hit and miss Spring weather (like most everywhere…) so whenever we can we are outside enjoying the sunny days.

The weekend before last we had my Papa’s funeral which was super sad but it was also really nice to get to see family that I don’t get to see often. My cousin has a son who is only a month younger than Sophie, so it’s always really cute to see the two of them interact in person. We do a lot of snapchatting to each other about the two of them. 🙂 Sophie is SO tall though. She’s a good five inches taller than Krystal’s son and weighs 12 pounds more!

That Saturday after the funeral, I hopped in my car and headed to Destin, Fl to see friends of mine who are in the band, Light Up the Moon, play at Aj’s in Destin. It was so much fun. They aren’t local – they’re based in PA – so it was really nice to get to see them again!

Cooper got this bubble gun for his birthday from his Aunt Marie and her crew, and it has just been a huge hit around here. I went out and got a similar one for Sophie to use in order to curb and fights over whose turn it is to use it, BUT we are just loving playing with them. We’ve taken them to the park a couple of times and all the other children really enjoy it too. So, if you’re looking for an easy and relatively cheap form of entertainment, go to Walmart and get a bubble gun…or two! We’ve always played with bubble…but having this little battery powered bubble blower has made the whole experience even more enjoyable AND less messy. Those are two major wins in my book.

And then this past weekend the weather was beautiful. Things were back to routine after three weekends of dealing with deaths and funerals. The kids got to go stay with Grammy and Ppop on Friday night. And Saturday night I got to hang out with some of my fave adults, my sister – her husband – and our friend Michael. We did dinner and drinks followed by a night at the Chill Bar at the IP Casino. 🙂 A wee bit too much wine was consumed, but it was lots of fun. 🙂

Anddd that’s about it! What have you guys been up to?

Life Lately

Hey y’all hey! It’s an every other Monday over here which means we are spilling the beans on what life has looked like lately for each of us.

Ashley –

Hmmm, I feel like a whole lot and yet a whole lot of nothing has happened over the past two weeks. First of all,  I can’t believe that I’m staring at the face of March.  March is the start of a maddening birthday season for my family. Seems like everybody and their momma were conceived around July or August. lol

But anyway…what are some things that we were up to? Let’s see, there were at least two trips to Chuckie Cheese for Soso and Coop. There was a couple days where we got to go down to the beach and dip our toes…and feet…and eventually entire baby bodies in the sand. I don’t know why I ever think that the kids will just walk on the sidewalk and not drench themselves in sand. 🙂 It was nice though. I’m ready for some moreeeee Spring/Summer weather.

Rhonda, Stuart, and the kids came down for several days so I got to hang with them for a bit. Sophie and Claudia got to meet for the first time since Sophie was a teeny baby, and Stuart, Rhonda and I got to go out to our fave bar at the IP Hotel and Casino for a Friday night of vodka induced shenanigans. I got to go back to the IP yesterday (Saturday) for a little morning spa/massage day which was incredibly nice! If you’re local, you need to check out the Senses Spa at the IP in Biloxi.

Beyond that things have been pretty chill and business as usual. I’ve been abstaining from wine for the month of February to push through some health and weight loss goals. I’ve definitely noticed some results physically and mentally, so that’s super nice. I am looking forward to Wine Wednesday on March  7…cause I’m going to allow myself to have some then. 😉

Things with Coop at school are still great. He’s been having some ‘ears listening’ issues…but it’s not everyday and he’s working hard and progressing in so many other ways at school. And Sophie? Well she’s a little hot mess express all bundled up in incredible cuteness and personality spunk. She’s recently discovered Sophia the First on Netflix…so she’s on a bit of a princess kick which is super cute.

But yeah. That’s about it for us…what about you Rhonda?

Rhonda –

The past couple of weeks have been SO good to me!  Granted, it’s been stressful…but still lovely.

We finally got to go see my new nephew in Mississippi. He is the stinking cutest and I kind of can’t handle it!

While we were there, we saw Ashley and Sophie, as she told you.  Sophie and Claudia weren’t fast friends, but it is what it is at this age.  Claudia and Skylar, though?  Besties.  Skylar is the daughter of Shelby, my sister-in-law’s sister-in-law.

While in Mississippi, I got to stop by my stylist Savannah’s salon for a shampoo and blowout.  Then Stuart and I went shopping before going out with Ashley and Grace.

This past week was spent recovering from the long trip.  It poured rain for 5 days straight.  Just before we had to build an ark, it got nice for the weekend and we spent most of it either running errands or in the driveway.  We grilled, of course.

What have you been up to lately?  Anything fun to share?

The Value in Parenthood

Sometimes things happen to your loved ones that make you sit back and reflect upon your own life. Even though I am fully aware of the way that things can change at a moment’s notice – when something unexpected happens, I am still always emotionally blown away.

My maternal grandfather, Papa, is currently in the hospital – dealing with some pretty daunting medical issues that arose after what was a seemingly normal medical procedure. Things suddenly became scary and hopeless.

And while I don’t want to dive into the specifics of that situation, because it is still on going – I just wanted to bring it up, so that these musings didn’t seem so vague. Because, let’s be honest vague blogging has got to be worse than vague Facebooking. Right??

So – if you’re interested…or curious…I thought I’d let my thoughts spill out into a blog post. 😉

Anyway, this situation caused me to think about him – and his life – and my memories of him – and the way that I perceived him. My relationship with him. Which led me to thinking about my own parenthood. And my own children. Thinking about the way that they perceive me and how that will change over time. I thought about how, as a parent, we do our best to do our best for our children. We want to be able fulfill all their needs and wants. We just want to be able to do it all for them, which is an all consuming task. The thought of not being able to do that can keep you awake at night or cause a hideous panic to rise within you so that you throw caution and good logic to the wind while just trying to make something happen for your child.

I just got to thinking about all that there is involved in being a parent. And all the things I try to do and say and demonstrate. I thought about the things I feel like I’m succeeding at, and of course, my mind began to dwell on my own perceived failures. And so, then I just thought about how grateful I am to have those two little babies in my life. How honored I am to be called their mom. I thought about all the value that they add to my life. The immense value that they give my life.

And because I was thinking about life and death in relation to parenthood – I thought about my children’s lives after I’m no longer here. I hope that they have memories of me. I hope that they have happy memories. Sad memories, Funny memories. Frustrating memories. Light hearted memories. Heavy memories. Beautiful memories. Ugly memories. Silly memories.

Memories that bring value to their life.

Above all, I realized, I want to add value to my children’s lives. Because, you can do and say all that you want. You can impress upon your children to think this or do that. But you can’t control them. You can’t completely shape the person that they will become. Or the way that they think. You can’t expect to always be a part of their lives just because you are their parent. You can’t assume that what you do for them will be perceived the way you intend it.

I just hope that however they look back on the way that I impact their lives – whatever light they see it in – I hope that I add value to their lives. I hope that my impact whether it becomes positive or negative to them – is still valuable. I hope that what I do has some kind of tangible value for them.

Parenthood is such a tricky and risky business. Parenthood in all forms. And it makes me emotional. And the thought of the loss of a parent heightens those emotions.

As a parent, you can’t do it all. You can’t always do or say the right thing. Sometimes you may think you’re doing something right…but it ends up being wrong. Either way, I think that we should strive for the valuable thing.

Week In Review: Rhonda

Not even sure how another week has already passed since I last wrote my week in review.  Where did the week even go? Hmm…let’s see…

We started the week with trying to get into a routine again after the kids returned from their dad’s.  This meant workouts, outside play time, and healthy, hearty meals.

By Tuesday, I was ready for some tequila.  Like, really had a craving for it.  I made some delicious margaritas with fresh watermelon and enjoyed them on the front porch while the kids played with neighbors.

Friday, we had a sangria play date with a mom group.  The kids and I all had such a great time.  Unfortunately, in the evening Stuart was on his way to join us when the shifter on his motorcycle snapped in half.  He was fortunately moving relatively slowly in a residential area and not on the interstate.  I had to leave the party to go follow him home at literally 12 MPH, since the shifter broke while in first gear.  We then went back to the party and had a couple of drinks before heading home.

Saturday, we just hung out as we usually do and practiced Lipsense application on Claudia so that we will be ready for Halloween makeup.  Sunday was amazing weather, so we took full advantage with some time in the sunshine!  An absolutely lovely weekend for sure!

What was the highlight of your week?

Happy 2nd Birthday Sophie Grace

Hey you guys! Ashley here today – about to wax poetic about my little girl’s birthday. 😉

Today my baby girl turns two. Two. I really can’t believe it. Time flies so quickly when  you measure it against the growth and development of your children. I know that it may seem silly to some people that I would write a blog post to my two year old child. The thing is that we live in such a wonderful time where we have this beautiful thing called the internet. You don’t have to be someone of any significance to have your words immortalized online. I think it’s amazing that there are moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends and so on – putting their thoughts and ideas online. Our children and descendants will be have access to the word of the everyday man. My children will be able to look back and better know the person that I am through my words. They will be able to see world and life events from my perspective in a way that would not be possible without the internet and social media. Soo anyway, I had some things I wanted to say in honor of the life Sophie has led so far, and the limitless possibilities that lie ahead for her.

Sophie Grace I am so lucky to be your mommy. A daughter was something I hoped for but never expected to have. You have this ability to make the people around you melt to your will and desire. I see you make your stubborn Daddy do things and give into things without hesitation just because it’s you asking. You are happy and generous, but you know exactly what you want and aren’t afraid to let us know if you, “No like it. No like it.”  I hope that you always stay that way. I hope that you are forever true to yourself. Sometimes we lose that ability as we age. I want you to know that I named you Grace after your aunt because she is so important to me – and she’s an amazing woman – just like you are to me and just like I know you will be when you grow up. I want you to always remember that you share this birthday with my Mimi (your great grandmother) who is also an amazing woman. I wish that you could have known her better. Thankfully, I did and I feel like I have parts of her influence in me that I get to share with you.

Most of all I want you to know that you are loved and cherished beyond measure. You were the missing piece to our lives that we didn’t know we needed, but could never live without now.

Soso – you are just lovely. I love you, and I hope this birthday – and all the ones to follow – are all that you want and need.

——————————————-

So, today you turn TWO and here are some things about you:

You love the movie Moana and this show on Netflix called Masha the Bear. You’ve watched both of these no less than fifty times(maybe a hundred??). You know the songs from Moana, and you sing along with them which is just probably the most cute thing ever. Like. Ever.

You say so many things. I can’t even begin to count the amount of words you say, and since your brother struggled with speaking…having a tiny little person running around who can speak so well is continually surreal. You are by no means chatty, but your vocabulary is incredibly extensive.

You are so chill. You don’t need other humans. You are content to spending long stretches of time alone. Sometimes I can forget that you are even there with me. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that’s not ok. I identify with that. I love that about you.

The only time you are not chill is when you aren’t getting your way. Lately, it seems we are seeing some typical “terrible 2’s” behavior. You throw some impressive fits, and the way you writhe on the ground while shaking your pointer finger at me saying, “no no” does nothing but make me smile. Cause you’re cute even when you’re mad. 😉

You LOVE your baba (aka the bottle). I’m going to try to start taking it away from you – I am fearful of this endeavor. Your baba is a source of comfort for you that is unmatched by any other object. So. We shall see.

You love for me to read to you. One of your favorite books is, ‘The Potty Train’. Hopefully soon we’ll actually be potty trained. 😉

You generally just go with the flow of things. You don’t mind a last minute change to routine which makes things easy – and that is nice. However, you do like to lounge in bed when you first wake up….gotta have that wake up time THEN you’ll be ready to start the day without a fuss.

And one of MY favorite things about you… 😉 You love shoppin … especially shoppin at Target.

Week In Review: Rhonda

Another week has gone by and THANK YOU for stopping in again to see what I’ve been up to.  Honestly, I feel like I’m autopilot a lot lately.  It’s been awhile since I had a parenting break.  Fortunately, I have a long one starting Saturday.  Trust me, we ALL need it.

Monday through Thursday were pretty typical.  School, business, and domestic shit – including, but not limited to, breaking a vintage pyrex mixing bowl.

Friday I lifted weights for the first time since moving into the new house.  It was actually under 90 degrees for once, so working out in the garage was a perfect solution.  I smashed the workout, then ran some errands with the kids before coming home to do more domestic shit.  I love starting a weekend with a clean house!

Starting the weekend with a clean house allowed me to be able to sunbathe all weekend again.  Claudia and I totally enjoyed the lower temps.

She got her first haircut.  She had nonstop asked for me to cut it, so I gave in and I have to admit, it looks a lot better.

There is literally nothing I love more than lounging in the sun with a cocktail and some great music.  Sealing in my color before it gets too cool and I am loving the way I feel in my skin.

Did you have nice weather this week?  What did you do?

Week In Review: Rhonda

Dang, it’s Monday?!  Only discovered that when I saw that Ashley posted the recap of her week.  I guess I’ll update you on MY life.  I’m sure you’re just dying to hear all about it.

You all know what Monday was – big eclipse day!  Well, it was also our first day back to school and we had a great day!  We watched the big event live on NASA’s Facebook feed all day.  Later I found Harper using a flashlight to recreate the eclipse.  I love watching his mind work.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday were pretty basic.  Figuring out a school routine and general household and work duties.

I got a great surprise Friday when I woke up and Stuart was still in the bed, smiling at me.  He had taken the day off unexpectedly and it made my day.  He helped me with school, which the kids really seemed to enjoy.  We played Trivial Pursuit, during which we discovered Nick has never heard of Levi’s.

Saturday, we took another trip to IKEA, this time with two kids.  We spent so much time there, during which we LOST CLAUDIA.  We were in the kitchen area of the showroom and Quentin was marveling over some stools.  We mentioned that we were headed to the dining tables to take another look at the one we wanted.  Some baby girl hobbled over and touched my leg and I looked down expecting it to be Claudia. It was not and it was then that we realized Claudia was not with us.  Panic.  I immediately turned around and retraced my steps, thinking she got turned around in the crowded store.  Stuart and Quentin were searching the surrounding kitchens.  When I didn’t find her in the last few areas we had been, I switched directions and went ahead.  I found her with an employee who was calling to report her found.  Turns out she had wandered off and a customer found her standing alone.  Scariest moment of my parenting so far.  It was probably only 2 minutes, but it felt like an hour.  Once that nightmare was over, we finished shopping, picked up Claudia’s bed from a friend, and headed home for a late dinner.

Sunday, we started putting together our lovely IKEA haul and that was quite the adventure.  Quentin and Claudia were surprisingly helpful. Stuart’s coworker Jim came over in the evening with his power tools to help with one of the more complicated assemblies in exhange for a steak.

Week In Review: Ashley

Monday – Hmmm what did we do Monday. Just the usual. I woke up at six and started my day by getting ready. Then at about a quarter til seven the chaos of getting a four year old to dress himself and rangle a 1.5 year old began. We all survived to leave the house and head to work, school, and grandparents for the day. After all that? Well we had chores, dinner, and playing until bath/bed time. 🙂

Tuesday – I ended up being off this day instead of Wednesday. Cooper and Sophie had dentist appointments at 9 and 9:30 that morning. The dentist again? Yup. This time Cooper had a cleaning and Sophie was there for her 2 yr old check in. She turns two in September so we went ahead and got that taken care of since Cooper was there for a cleaning anyway. They both did great. I don’t know if you guys remember me telling you about Cooper falling and hitting his two front teeth a couple weeks ago? That was why were just at the dentist a couple weeks ago. Well they are both loose, but the one on the right has started to darken in color and die. So, it looks like we will have a toothless wonder soon. Otherwise, the dentist said his teeth look fantastic. 🙂

Wednesday to Friday – See Monday above for details..lol Same ole same ole. Although, Friday Cooper missed school because he was running a fever.

Saturday – We spent the day at Grammy and Ppop’s . The kids have been sick so they were a little under the weather. Plus it rained most the day…which you guys know is just my absolute favorite. Not. Cooper stayed at my parent’s house that night, while Soso came home with me. We stopped by Kohl’s on the way home to do a little shopping. Their towels were on sale plus I had coupon so I was able to get us some much needed new towels for the house. That night I cut up the old ones to use as rags. Super exciting Saturday night… 😉

Sunday – Thankfully, there was no rain! We had lunch at my sister’s house that day. Cooper had another low fever so we went home that afternoon for some rest and naps. Both kids have had a cold for about a month now that they just can’t seem to shake. I thought it was just their immune systems adjusting to Cooper being exposed to new germs from school. However, I’m now thinking there may be more going on. Anyway, we shall see when we go to the doctor. 🙂 I ended the night with Game of Thrones and an early bed time.

Hope you guys had a fantastic week and weekend! What were y’all up to?
